CongestedCat is Casting

  • "The Gaze"

Short (approx. 7 min). Looking for non-union talent only.

Ricky: (Lead) 18-27 yrs old, Asian-American ideally, but open to any ethnic minority. Sweet girl-next-door type with an edge hidden under the surface.

Grace: (Supporting) 70's+, Any race/ethnicity. Stern demeanor. Must be thin or not too fit, to be able to be made fragile looking. (A younger (20s) version of this character will be cast based on the look of the older actor.)

The Creep: (Supporting) Early 30s, White. "All-American" looking man who has a darkness lurking inside. Must be able to scream loudly and be comfortable with spewing vulgar language at people. Involves action.

Guy: (Supporting) 20s-30s, Mixed race/Multi-ethnic. Hipstery. Well-intentioned but pushy crew member.

Also need men of varying ages/backgrounds/styles to be catcallers. And woman-identifying individuals of varying backgrounds to be part of a small, intense gathering. These roles will not require all day, only a few hours of time.

Production will happen over one weekend in Queens in May.

No pay. IMDb credit, meals, and footage for reels will be provided. This film will be high quality and submitted to festivals, but is meant to be a cathartic experience for all involved. Will be a no-budget, casual, community-oriented filmmaking experience. Totally open to beginner actors. One day commitment for all roles except the lead.

All submissions & inquiries to be sent to:

Please include headshot, resume and any possible footage. Will initially request a video audition.

About a Donkey is finished! (Seed&Spark Update)

One year ago today, we launched our campaign for this film! And today is the day we finished it! It's been nine months since we wrapped principal photography, and post-production is officially done! We did it! We made a movie! Thank you, we couldn't have done it without all of you, our cast, and our crew!

To celebrate, we put together a sneak peek of a scene below that shows what post-production entails!

Post Credits: Editing: Matt Gershowitz, Color Grading: Anna Marie Nguyen, Sound Mix & Design: Sean Mannion (Foley: Frank Huang), Musical Score: Alexandra Kalinowski

Also, we're having a cast and crew screening at Anthology Film Archives on March 10th. Anyone who contributed $100 or more received a free invite. (Please let us know if you didn't get this email.) For anyone local who wants to see the film before private links are sent out next year, you can purchase an exclusive ticket for $12 here: We have 100 seats available and are hoping to sell enough tickets to cover the cost of renting the theater. Hope you can join us!

For anyone not local, we hope to have a festival screening near YOU sometime this year. Stay tuned for that festival news!

Thanks again for everything!

IndieWorks: January Recap

Last Tuesday was the January edition of IndieWorks! It was a fun lineup and an exciting way to start 2018. With 4 films, we had 50 people in attendance, made up of a thoughtful and engaged audience.  All the films of the evening focused on sex and love, or the lack thereof! The Q&A was filled with great comments and discussions!

We'd just like to say thank you to everyone who came out to support the filmmakers and spend the evening with us & them. We do hope you enjoyed all the films and the opportunity to network with other filmmakers and film enthusiasts. We know some connections were made! (And shout-out to our guest co-host of the evening Ricki Lynée, who we hope to have back soon!)

And we hope you'll join us again for our February screening on the 13th -  featuring films focusing on the quest for intimacy and connection!

See photos from the evening:

Cake (Written & Directed by Anne Hu)

Ace and Anxious (Written & Directed by Bri Castellini)
Emma is an asexual graphic designer with generalized anxiety disorder who learns that one of the benefits of sex is lower stress levels. She decides to test this by placing an ad on Craigslist, to see if the one thing she's never tried due to her sexuality might finally "cure" her of her anxiety.

Teufel (Directed by Miguel Garzon Martinez, Written by Denis Ooi)
Watch the heroic story of our protagonist "Insecure Ed" as he dukes it out with his inner demons while going out on a date with the woman of his dreams.
